Meet the Giorgi's

Dec 08, 2005 07:40

Yesterday was not an ordinary day, sure I went to work just like any other day, but it is what I did or should I say was a part of when I got off of work that made it a special day...meeting the parents. Aggie's parents wanted to see where she lived, worked (since she transferred from Davis) and of course who she is shacking up with.

They were coming over at 7:00 and I still needed to bake a cake, cut up the ingredients for the bruschetta and wrap the asparagus in prosciutto. I forgot to get vegetable oil for the cake, so we went to the store and got some, but by the time we got back it was already 5:00. I was totally nervous and got a bit cranky because I felt like I had no time to do all of the cooking and prep needed and help aggie clean up. Our apartment was pretty clean already, but we just needed to give it a good dusting and clean the bathroom, important things a parent might check out while at our place.

So we both worked together me in the kitchen, aggie taking care of the bathroom(thanks sweetie)I hate bathrooms and she took care of rest of the house as well. Finally, about 6:30 I could see everything coming together. The house was clean, ingredients for the brushetta had been made, my chocolate cake just needed the raspberry filling w/buttercream frosting, the aparagus needed to get wrapped and the ravioli sauce was cooking. Everything looked great, but I was still nervous the thoughts of what if they dont like me, what if they hate my cooking, what if they dont like the apartment, what if they actually say mean things to us.

I put those thoughts out of my mind and just contiued to prepare the meal, I went to the bathroom and low and behold I hear a knock on the door, it was them, the PARENTS and of all places for me to be when I first get to meet them is coming out of the restroom. I took a deep breath checked my hair and shirt and walked out of the bathroom with all the confidence I could muster up.

As I walked out I saw her mom first and then her dad I extended my hand and said hello, at first I think we were all nervous, but after a few minutes it seemed to go away. We started talking about what was for dinner and what I did for a living or maybe I just rattled of my resume so they would know that I was a hardworking middle class citizen and I wasnt going to take advantage of thier only daughter. At this point things are going pretty good, but then it happen! Her mom noticed some art work on the fridge, I am sure you are saying so what, but it was what was holding up the art work that made it a little awkward, it was a magnet of two naked women, with a close up shot of a bare breast. If that dosent scream we are Lesbians not sure what does. I was standing by the fridge when her mom mentioned the art work, I just wanted to grab the magnet, but it would of been way to obvious and it was to late. We both know that was her way of saying I see it, the two naked women. Aggie handled it perfect she just commented about the art work and I just went along with it and in no time at all things got back on track.

I was really suprised how nice her parents were, her mom was very talkative and her dad and I hit it off fairly well. They stayed for about an hour and a half and then went on their way. I was a bit disappointed because I wanted to be invited to aggie's family x-mas party on Sat. and I thought if they liked me enough they would let me come. Well, aggie asked and got turned down they told aggie they liked me, but since it is a holiday dinner they are not quite ready for me to meet the rest of the family. That is ok, cause her mom did invite me to her house to just hang out. Sometimes baby steps are better than none at all, I finally got to meet her parents and they know that we are happy and are doing well for ourselves and in the end that is what parents want for thier kids and that is to be happy.

I am pretty happy with how everything went and now aggie and I can breath a sigh of relief. Meeting the Giorgi's was a success for all of us.
