Woohoo!

I got my cast off today and I get to keep it off! I can even walk! Not very well because my foot is out of practice, but all I need to do is gradually use it more and more, in normal mobility, and I can expect to be back to normal walking in a few weeks. Given that when I got the cast on I was told I might need 2-3 weeks longer after this date, I am very stoked.

I walked up the stairs!

Also, the crutches, which formerly seemed like impossible torture devices when I couldn't put weight on that foot and couldn't hold up my full weight with my arms, are suddenly mobility and balance aids because I can support part of my weight while walking and get a much better range of walking motion. So I'm going to use them when I walk and mix in full support, partial support, and no support from them, to let me take bits of rest on each part of my body as I go, and ease my foot back in to this whole bending and rotating and flapping concept. Ideally I want to be able to get stronger in my upper body than I was before the break, so if I ever hurt a leg again I *will* be able to use crutches; it was really alarming how much more disabling the broken foot was than it is on someone with better upper body strength. But I just didn't have enough energy to work on my arms while it was broken, so I decided to make it part of my rehab goals.

Chance is super excited to see me more vertical again; his reaction was to race around happily, lean on me for snuggles, etc. It will probably be a month before I get to walk him again, since he's still quite the puller even on a martingale, but I'll get to go out with him on walks again pretty soon.
