GaymerCon: Everybody Games

So, I thought that the Readercon harassment conversation itself was amazingly useful, and would have remained so on its own merits even if it had stopped at the two year ban, because this talk was happening out in the light of day instead of being brushed aside and hidden as has so often happened with harassment incidents in the past. I was even ( Read more... )

Oh, man. That looks like fun. Except it's scheduled for the one weekend next summer I expect to be scheduled. *shakes fist at unfair universe*

The folks at geekfeminism.org have a bunch of info on harassment policies, although it's skewed towards tech conferences rather than geek conventions.

Bah, maybe 2014 then! They want to make it an ongoing concern.

I think Ada Initiative has some sample harassment policies, too. The Wiscon one that Bryant posted below sounds good.

I would expect both WisCon and ConBust have good policies. I'm too lazy to google them myself to verify, though. Neither are near you, unfortunately. (Uan, if you remember her from WoW, either helped run or launch ConBust, I think -- not exactly sure when it started, but I vaguely remember her saying she was involved in its early years.)

Oh, thanks! I'd heard good things about Wiscon but wasn't directly familiar with them.

ConBust has a great name; it makes me think "Con or Bust!"

It'll be terribly convenient for me.

Maybe I'll do a starter run at a costume later to debut at the Folsom St. Fair.

Or maybe just wear a lot of leather.

In a year I might be able to fit into my utilikilt again.

I hadn't even thought of costumes! Brad has a fine supply of GM shirts, at least. Utilikilts are great; I've been pondering them as a solution to the epi-pen problem. (I don't like carrying a purse, and epi-pens are too big to go into my pockets easily.)

I see it more in MMO than in tabletop gaming, but yeah. Having people be mindful of it is a big help, and this con is already getting LGBTQ gamers on the map as a sizable demographic. I think they've won even before throwing the con, by getting such a good level of support.
