I'm in the "temporary crown" stage of the crown fitting, which means I can't eat anything really sticky or crunchy or I can pop the crown off. I haven't been eating much crunchy lately anyhow because of all of the problems. The abused molar was really bad when the novacaine wore off, needing both tylenol and advil to manage it (and I was walking into walls before I remembered to take them; someday I am going to learn to take this stuff proactively). But by the end of the day it had already calmed down; I fell asleep too fast and forgot to take painkillers, and while I woke up at 5:30 am from the aching it wasn't so bad and one advil took care of it.
The "good" news is that I don't have to do it in the order of filling, wisdom tooth removal, crown. Apparently that order would be better if I were doing a porcelain crown, which would probably get damaged by removing the wisdom tooth, but since this is the back molar I'm getting gold alloy, and that will work better than the actual tooth would have for the wisdom tooth removal. They need to use the molar as a fulcrum. (I devoutly hope that they will sedate me for this procedure. A LOT.) So after I get the permanent crown fitted (a fast procedure) all I am looking at is the wisdom tooth and then I'm DONE.
Getting the allergy shots on the same day was pretty dicey, but there wasn't really any way around it; I needed to get this tooth fixed and it was the soonest I could get. I was slow getting to the allergist so I ended up going straight from there to the dentist. This was good because if I'd gone home there was a pretty good chance I'd have crashed and missed my dentist appointment. But I had a mild asthma attack during the dentist appointment, the first I've had since I had a cold five or six years ago that triggered asthma, and had left my inhaler at home because I hadn't needed it for years. I shouldn't slack off about that ever, is the lesson there. I usually do carry it, since it's in my purse in the summer and jacket in the winter, but I'd just pulled my wallet and keys out of my purse and put them into my shopping bag since I thought I might stop by the market and I was feeling too tired to wrangle both the bag and my purse. It was a mild attack, at least, and cleared up by the time I got home. I kind of worried my dentist when I started coughing, though. (I've also up and gotten a migraine on him while in the office; it's hard to avoid stuff that has stress as a component trigger, since just driving there is also a trigger from all of the pollen.)
I'll take care that the wisdom tooth is *not* scheduled on or right after a shot day.
The other tooth that was giving me so much trouble is being very good now as long as I am good about doing the saline rinses. It's still a little tender if I bite on it, but it's just worlds better than it was last week, no longer sensitive if I push on it with a finger, and I can chew most foods on it without any issues. Since the trend is that it's improving, and it's not sensitive to heat or cold, it's pretty likely that the nerve is fine and I won't need a root canal.
