I did actually sit here and clap when I finished reading this last chapter; it was a well thought out and executed piece from start to finish, so a massive congratulations to you, dude!
I don’t think there is actually much more I can add to my previous comments and to everyone who has already declared their love for this, except to say that my emotions have pretty much been in tatters since the prologue and you’ve kept me guessing right until the very end who Naomi should/would end up with.
The ending is utterly satisfying in that real-life kind of way, and I adore that you left it a little open ended; it’s the end but really just the beginning and my mind is enjoying picturing these little snippets of future moments for them all.
Katie - she most definitely got the short end of the stick in this story, but I also kind of feel like it was a good thing for her in some ways. I mean, obviously it’s horribly sad and she’s had to go through an awful lot at such a young age, but at the same time I feel like being with Naomi allowed Katie to express herself in other ways that weren’t just ‘hey, look at me I’m fit and popular’. There became this lovely depth to Katie as this went on and I enjoyed watching her grow into herself more. I sincerely hope that her future would turn out to be bright and happy after the initial shock and distress of discovering out about Naomi/Emily.
(I also, since this has been following canon pretty damn closely all the way through, like to picture a common ground being found between Katie and Effy just like in series 4. The idea that the mysterious Effy might actually see that Katie wasn’t just this stuck up person after Naomi brings her world crashing down and take the time to befriend her, is such a lovely image, and I’d love for it to be Effy who helped Katie build her life again; nothing better than a good friend to have your back.)
Emily - this Emily is probably my favourite Emily in fandom. I really felt like you got inside her for this story. And even though she isn’t flawless and she made mistakes, I found her absolutely compelling and couldn’t help but hope that she found happiness in the end, whether that was with Naomi or not.
Naomi - what a complete twat, ey? And yet I love her like crazy. I know I’ve said this many times but she’s just so complex and complicated and yet I find that she’s the root cause to her own problems most of the time. She’s so oblivious to herself and naive to others that I just have this empathy for her. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve wanted to slap her a good few times in this, and hug her too, but no matter what I think the key thing of Naomi’s character for me is that she doesn’t do these thoughtless acts intentionally. She makes mistakes over and over and yet she’s still trying to learn. Love her♥
Cook and Effy - my favourite two side-kick characters. They made the perfect appearances and did and said all the right things. Big love for them!
Gina - the day you stop writing her is the day me and you are over! Nobody does Gina Campbell quite like you, Flissybear♥
I could picture every moment of this in my head perfectly, you captured all the little details that a story really needs to come alive brilliantly. It was a visual, heart-wrenching masterpiece.
As always, massive love for this and of course, for you, babes♥
Thanks love! I'm glad you found the ending satisfying - sort of bittersweet really!
I like that you saw Katie that way, that she got the chance to grow. And I think she did - being with Naomi has shaped her. It's just a shame that what she's going to discover next is going to shape her too :(
(I think Effy might be there for Katie, you know? Shakey/scrapey <3)
Oh Emily <3 thanks so much for liking her! I'm so pleasantly surprised with how much you lot all loved her here. That's just... ♥
God, Naomi is totally the root of her own problems, the great moron. But we love her for it. Mostly. And exactly - she doesn't mean to do it, she just fucks it up and tries again. I think Emily will go a long way to helping her stop doing that. After a while, anyway :)
LOL. Gina... well, you know how I feel about her. She's just immense, and so funny. When Bets was betaing she was always like LOL Gina - I wish you were my mum which is so funny, really, because we only saw a tiny bit of Gina on the show but she lives on in fandom, and in my heart. ;)
Visual is like an AMAZING compliment. Because I can see it all so clearly in my head and the thought that you can too is just the best.
