Lotsa Stuff... and some good news

So what's been happening to me lately? Well, let's see:

Spent last week in Dublin attending the BA Festival of Science. Was over there with a bunch of friends, including saintmaryuk, timpootle, welshlad and hippo22. Most of the others were reveling in "proper" Guinness, and we all attended many lectures on the weird and wonderful.

While we were there we happened on Capel Street, which I was gratified to find was chock full of sex shops. Who'd have thought? It's like they knew me ...

We took the plane over, flying on the "budget" airline Ryanair. Having traveled on many airlines before some of the cut they've made to keep the price down rankled a bit, but I have to admit they were impressively priced. Plus for one of the party it was his first time on an aeroplane (or indeed out of the UK) so he was entertained by the new experience. Shame about the ~3 hour delay on the way back, which led to us being in airports continuously between 13:30 and 19:00 that day. Excluding 45 minutes on a plane.

Had a phone call this morning from a company in town I'd interviewed at just before I went to Dublin. I didn't get the job they had on offer.

However, they liked me so much they're creating a new job just for me! How cool is that?

The pay is about what I was getting in my previous job, but since it's in the centre of Manchester, the transport costs will be minimal (£2/day on the metro) that pretty much means a large tax-free pay rise. Yay!

There's many details to sort out, and initially it will only be a 3 month contract, but I'm confident they won't want to let me go after that.
