So, I've been wanting to see this movie for a while, ever since it debuted at The Sundance Film Festival a couple of years back. Never got around to it at the festival, as other films tended to be scheduled at the same time.
It's been sitting on my coffee table for approximately a month, in its little Blockbuster Online sleeve. I finally watched it yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised. It's a REALLY off-beat comedy starring Jemaine (of Flight of the Conchords fame), and a handful of brilliant Kiwi actors and actresses, all of whom I've never seen before. It tells the story of two socially awkward people, finding love in each other, while dealing with a world that doesn't understand them. There are also nunchucks and animal suits. Funny stuff.
If Napoleon Dynamite hadn't come out first, I could see this film leading the way. Not as slickly produced as Napoleon, but definitely with as much heart and quirkiness. Just a slice of a strange Kiwi's life, put to celluloid. The wonderful up's, and the heart-wrenching downs. You really feel for the characters. Now, if I could only understand some of them...
