I have yet another solution for the world's problems. Well, some of the world's problems. Well, my problems.
Labor day is coming up, and while I'm going to greatly enjoy that fine and beautiful day the weather man is promising us it will be (taking in account the fact that it is a normal work day that I don't have to of course), I think we should celebrate it with zest this year.
Labor day, I've heard, is named to honor all the people that fought for the eight hour work day and child labor laws. It seems that not so long ago, factory workers in this country were forced to work 17 hours a day under really horrendous conditions, and because of this a lot of them didn't live past the age of 24. A lot of the factory workers that united and fought against this were killed or imprisoned because they created something called a union and were spouting out words like socialism and communism to show the few who really has the power -- the many.
Now, I'm not willing to go overboard with this and get even some of us killed or imprisoned, because honestly, I'm not so sure all that is necessary for significant change to happen. I know it seems that is what is needed, but I have a simple plan. It's called, "Beat Those Rat Bastards At Their Own Game."
First, stop buying crap. I know how much fun crap is, and I like it just as much as the next guy, so I'm not asking you to give it up forever. All I want you to do is to resist until next year's labor day. With the money that you save from not buying crap all year, we are going to "Beat Those Rat Bastards At Their Own Game."
Next labor day, we'll all pool the money we saved and buy the offices that we currently work at right from the landlord our boss's rent from. Not one person will own the building but all the employees who work there will own it. Each of the employees will take turns paying the utilities and maintaining the books needed for three months at a time. Each employee will receive an equal share of profits from the rent charged to the company that operates there.
No gun fire. No killing. Simple peaceful revolution. Workers will then own the means of production.
If workers want a raise, they increase the rent. :)
