So here I am with an almost recovered voice and no will to do anything useful with the free time I've had lately. Long-ass recap:
Monday: Started unpacking things at our new location at work. I can now see sunshine on a daily basis and it doesn't smell like nasty-ass Glade plugins anymore. I have an unnecessarily huge new desk that I can't seem to keep clean already (the weird material retains small scratch marks), but my ergonomic chair is a huge bonus. And I'm now in the same building with my Diva on Wheels Donna!!! Women riders unite!! Lol...
Tuesday: Boss finally came back from her month-long vacation in Malaysia. I really missed her, but there was really no time to visit her back at the old building since there was still so much work to do. She got me a pretty blouse that looks a lot like what the women in the Philippines wear on really hot days. Was feeling a little funny because my throat was sore when I woke up. Usually not a good sign, because right before I get sick, I get a sore throat.
Went to my first class and my friends noticed I was not looking too well. Went to my second class and told the teacher I had to go home and rest. She felt my head (she's very motherly towards all of her students) and agreed I had a fever coming on. Adam called on my way to my bike and I chatted with him about our plans when he's here. Oh yeah ADAM'S FINALLY COMING!!! WOOO!!!!! June 6th through the 13th. So not a lot of time to travel much but L.A., Moreno Valley, possibly Palm Springs, San Diego, Rosarito, Puerto Nuevo, and Vegas are currently on the itinerary. We're used to traveling on the fly so I'm sure we'll have a great time. Had to call him later when I got home because I was getting cold sitting on my bike and my fever catching up.
Wednesday: Got no sleep. Woke up at 1am, 2am, 3am, and 5am. Had a fever and chills all night. Laid on the couch with a cold water and finally dragged myself to my mom's bed with sweats to try and break the fever. Fever broke at about 6:20am, showered, and dragged myself to Starbucks to pick up breakfast and coffee as promised for my coworkers. It was our first operating day at our new location, so I thought it'd be nice for a decent meal at a decent time since we didn't have the convenience of the overpriced cafe nearby anymore.
Less than an hour into work, I knew coming was a mistake. I tried to force myself to focus, but my fever was making it's was back. My lead and two of my coworkers urged me to go home, but I said I'd at least stay until noon. I left at 10:45am saying I think it was time to go. My coworker who's been there years and reminds me of everyone's mother said, "It's been time for you to go honey...BYE. I don't feel sorry you forced yourself to stay." I don't blame her. I'm really stubborn. Barely was able to make it home, but slept 5 hours and broke the fever again. Popped more motrin and tried to sleep again.
Thursday: Woke up at 1am, 2am, 4am, and 7:30am. Called in to work, had no voice, throat swollen, and my fever was back and my bed was soaked with sweat. Took more motrin, tried to drink water unsuccessfully, and tried to lay down. Finally gave up and drove to the ER at Riverside Regional. What an animal house the ER is. Thursday's are not a good day to be admitted apparently. Room packed, no chairs, no beds. Arrived at 10am, seen by a doctor at 12pm, discharged at 6pm. All the time waiting in a makeshift triage area converted from a conference room with white portable screens used to separate 8 patients. A chair was put inside for the patients, and 2 overworked nurses assessed our fucked up group. My fever was really starting to kick my ass. Texted my classmates to let the profs know I most likely wouldn't make it.
By the time the doctor got there I thought I was gonna say to hell with it, and drive my sick ass home. He looked at me for 5 minutes, checked my throat, my neck, said mhmm looks like strep, and told the nurses to check my vitals because I might need hydration. And that was that. Got my vitals checked, and at least it was on a gurney for a part of it because I wanted to lay down so bad. I ended up getting 2 liters of fluids administered through an IV which I was hoping for. Unfortunately the 2-3 hours of being hydrated was in my chair with the screen no support to rest my head...the gurney went to someone else. Fever spiked again to 102. Nurses confused why nothing was working yet. Got 1000mg of aspirin and fever came down to 99 thirty minutes before they discharged me. To say I am dissatisfied with our medical system is an understatement. As I was walking out the hallway that was empty 8 hours before was now packed with patients ready to file into that little room. How absurd.
Issa flew in and we picked her up and got my meds on the way back. Saw a girl I went to high school with at stater bros. Gosh she was such a brat to everyone on dance team. Didn't recognize her at first with her ginormous boobs (implants), tanorexia (bottle orange), spare tire, and oversized belt on her butt...oh wait, she might have called that her skirt. Said she'd just gotten off work. Hm. Work. Right. And you're buying a single banana, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup. Didn't want to know what people buying a single banana do with it.
Friday (today): Called in to work again. Wasn't about to aggravate my condition. But I did wake up at 1am, 3am, 4am, and 8am. This is ridiculous. I should have asked for sleeping pills!!! Hopefully tonight will be better. I've got 3 lectures, 4 chapters, 2 assignments, and 2 papers to do by next week or I'm screwed. Then I have my work next week which will be picking up where I left off (I was already a week behind because of the move), plus a full week of testers.
So, thank you, Strep Throat. I hope you're satisfied of fucking me over for this week and the next. Let's talk again next year when I won't have to worry about this crap anymore >=(
