tunnels and lights

How much drama can one family undergo without being a bad tv show on Fox? In the last week, I think I've managed to argue with everyone in my family, including my poor partner Matt, and today, just when I thought things were finally starting to look up, my dad tells me he's rescheduled the carpet installation from tomorrow to Wednesday. Argh. Which means 2 more days of living in a house that resembles the fourth or fifth circle of hell.
On the bright side of things, my relationship with my brother is greatly improved, and all of this chaos has really helped Matt and I learn how to prioritize what things are really important to have, and what things can be passed on to others to enjoy. Perhaps the biggest thing to look forward to is a fresh start in Dayton with Matt, in our own little place, with a new simple approach to living. Hopefully from that point on we will fill our lives with experiences and friends, and not focus so much on what we own (not that I think we're necessarily materialistic to begin with, but it's amazing how much stuff we still managed to accumulate over time).
I still can't believe my new career begins in just 2 short weeks. It was almost surreal to receive an envelope in the mail yesterday addressed to me with the word "Professor" in front of my name (it was my employment contract for the university I will be working for). Strange. I better start filling my head with cataloging rules and reference sources pretty damn quick. No rest for the wicked, I suppose.
Until then, I'll keep reading Anansi Boys (it's so good!) and try to fit in some fun with Matt.
