I had the privilege of covering a lecture he gave in April at the University of Notre Dame and I just couldn't believe how taken in I was by what he had to say. He talked about his "gotcha" moments, where he shows video clips of politicians saying something completely contrary to what they just said. This was where I expected to not like him ... I thought, he's going to brag about how fun it is to watch them squirm. Instead, he said he does that so that politicians can explain their "intellectual journey" and tell people why they changed their minds. And that he's surprised more politicians don't do just that, but rather do squirm and try to stay "consistent." Like rational adults can't understand the human capacity to receive new information that changes a stance on an issue. We really needed him this year.
