Wanderers, Nomads and Outcasts - The Celtic Spirit C Matthews

Alone in the greenwood must I roam,
Hollin, green hollin,
A shade of green leaves is my home,
Birk and green hollin.

Among the Celtic peoples, young warriors were temporarily outcast from their tribe as partof their rite of passage into adulthood, under the guardianship of elders and teachers.

The choice of the wanderer to live a nomadic and unsettled life is often bewildering to those who are settled...

Settled folk have often denounced nomads as low-class, uneducated, amd suspect-easy scapegoats upon whom accusations of murder, theft, and black magic might be lodged.

Monitor your own attitudes toward nomads and wanderers. What part of your own being and beliefs is nomadic in character?

Well I am not one of the settled folk. I have been wandering since I was two. I can't help it. I love new sights. My own attitudes to those who wander is a kind of grateful relief to meet kindred folk. I yearn to really wander the earth with pack animals and a caravan of fellow wanderers. hmmm. I need more thought on my beliefs before I rattle about that. stay tuned.
