crackfics. I've noticed as they progressed that they become less like drabbles and more like fuggin' monsters...
"He's there again, Genichirou."
Yanagi's quiet voice alerted Sanada a moment before the younger boy waiting at the tennis court came into view. Sanada resisted the urge to sigh.
"Will you order him to vacate the courts, or shall I?" the data master asked, his tone sympathetic. The boy from Yamabuki had shown up to afternoon training for three weeks straight now, and Yanagi knew how annoyed his vice-captain became each day upon arriving, only to find Dan there.
Appreciating the offer, Sanada shook his head regardless, as he did every time Yanagi asked the question. "I am the vice-captain. While Yukimura is absent, it is my duty to deal with issues such as this."
His friend simply nodded in reply as Sanada handed him the clipboard he'd brought with the practice match assignments on it. This, too, had become routine in the past three weeks - while Sanada chased Dan away, Yanagi gathered the regulars and began the practice.
Today Dan waited for him with a determined expression on his face and a tennis racket in hand. Sanada's step nearly faultered, but he caught himself and continued until he stood in front of the much shorter boy. "You're persistent," he told him, not bothering to keep the annoyance out of his voice.
"Yes, desu!" Dan answered. "That's what Akutsu-senpai always told me, desu!" He took a breath, then plowed on before Sanada could interrupt, "I know you're about to tell me to leave, but please, please play me just once before you do, desu!"
Folding his arms across his chest, Sanada frowned. "That would cause an unacceptable commotion during Rikkai's training time," he replied.
"I promise I won't come back if you'll just play me once, desu!" he said quickly, as if he'd known in advance what Sanada's response was going to be. Indeed, he seemed too prepared, and when Sanada remained silent he begged, "Please!"
Sanada realized in that instant that he'd been manipulated. Dan had already proved his persistance, and now he was offering a clear way to rid Sanada of his presence. The kid also knew his patience was already at a minimum where this situation was concerned. With a glance over his shoulder to where his teammates were stretching - Dan's appearances had ceased being interesting long ago - Sanada ordered, "Follow me." He walked quickly to the farthest court, Dan scampering behind him to catch up. Once he reached the court he laid his tennis bag on the bench and unzipped it, pulling out his racket and two balls.
"Have you warmed up?" he asked, though he was certain the other boy must have thought ahead to that as well.
"Yes!" came the eager reply.
Sanada won the spin, and he chose to serve. Dan tried, but even his most valiant effort got him nowhere near being able to return Sanada's serve. When control of the ball reversed, Sanada answered each of Dan's serves with an unreachable return ace.
The match was over quickly, 6-0, Dan never scoring a single point.
As he approached the net to shake his opponent's hand, Sanada reflected that it had been not so much a match as a massacre. Despite that Dan was grinning broadly, eyes shining brightly with what looked to the older boy like adoration as his sweaty hand shook Sanada's. He bowed deeply and exclaimed, "Thank you very much, desu!" before leaving the court, headed toward the main school gate.
Standing there alone on the court, Sanada stared down at his hand and realized he'd never asked Dan why he'd wanted the match in the first place.

Kat, did you think this pairing was going to trip me up? Mwahahaha! Actually, it's the other one you gave me that stumped me...
I wanted so badly to sneak in something about Sanada's ONLY LONELY BRAVE HEART... but it just couldn't be done. Oh well. >.> Yes, I'madork.
