Well as you all may have guessed I made it into Canada. Or you all were under the impression that I was locked in a holding cell for 13 days!
To my surprise arriving at 4AM during the Calgary Stampede is like the best time to come! For one they are expecting visitors and are super friendly, two immigration is closed at 4am, and lastly the border guards know the current situation with the job market and are willing to accept anyone who has gone through the trouble.
Basically when I arrived, immigration was closed, so they pulled me aside and looked at the information regarding my work visa, they said that they'd keep my passport for the night and that I'd have to come back the 'next' day (like 5 hours later) during business hours for immigration to process. They made me sign a paper stating that if I didn't come back at 10am that they'd put a warrant out for my arrest.
So at 10am I went back in....expecting to get grilled by the guy. I rang the bell, they let me in, he took my papers, asked how I found out about the job (I lied kinda), what I'd be doing, then he noticed I was from Florida. Soon as he found that out....it was the only thing we talked about until my visa was fully processed and I was sent on my way to work and live in Canada for 2 years!
Since then we've been going non-stop. I got to grab a few more ours that Saturday before a BBQ his parents were having, so I got to meet his sister and brother-in-law and most of the families friends in one day. Then the next few days was getting some shopping done and getting unpacked and settled in. Then on Wednesday(18th) I started work and have been showing up ever since.
Job is good so far. Lots of work to be done. I kinda have two bosses and I already feel like I'm being pulled in different directions by them. They both have different ideas of what I should be doing currently. One wants me to take my time in training the software and getting familiar with it. The other wants me to develop a marketing campaign and initialize it like next week. SO I am doing what I can, but he is out of his mind if he thinks anyone can construct and implement a marketing plan in a week about products they aren't really familiar with yet! BLEH!
I do however like so far what my job is entailing so that is good. I am actually getting to use a bit of my Public Relation skills for the job which makes me extremely happy knowing that my years of education are getting use and that I actually kinda remember things from like 4 years ago!
Life with Russ is amazing. We get up and have breakfast and make lunches together. He takes me to work. He picks me up and we make dinner, either taking turns or helping each other. Its really quite domesticated! Truth is, I really like it and I haven't really felt 'trapped' or like we are spending too much time together or anything yet so that is good. I am sure once I get a car I will get back to a little bit more independence for myself which will be good.
Happiness = me currently ;)
