we could be like this.

This is it, Wooyoung thinks, when he realizes the truth that at some point, everyone settles for someone.

His name is Nichkhun.

As it turns out, Nichkhun is not really good at the things he thought he'd always value in a significant other. Nichkhun is older than him. Nichkhun doesn’t cook. Nichkhun doesn’t get his witticisms at all, and only crinkles his eyes good-naturedly when Wooyoung complains loudly that was a joke, you were supposed to laugh.

He's not even a she, and no matter how pretty people say he is, Nichkhun will never be the bride in his mother's dreams, the pearl of his father's approval. He will always be the awkwardly polite Thai kid Wooyoung likes to bring home during the weekends so they can pretend at being singers, and play video games late into the night-yeah, he's an exchange student studying music in Korea, so we go to the same university and everything, he's my best friend, Wooyoung explains it all in Korean too fast for Nichkhun to catch.

It only really occurs to Wooyoung that Nichkhun settles too, when he walks in on him crying alone in his room, a long-distance phone call to home.
