Hi, I'm Darren. I'm apparently new to this whole "keeping a journal" thing. Okay, not new to it -- just being a major slacker in that particular department of what is allegedly "life" around here.
What I've been up to:
- Slacking
- Watching movies
- Slacking
- Playing City of Heroes (news later)
- Slacking
- Recording, but not editing or releasing, flick-a-brac and Spoiler Alert
- Slacking
- The Job-Place
- Slacking
Yeah, that's pretty much it.
I got sick last week. Nothing major, just a "crud" as one of my coworkers puts it. It was accompanied by a fever, so I stayed home one day. Then I felt bad because I already had the next day scheduled off. (Skeleton Crew type holiday.) I just don't mess around when it comes to fever. Normally, I'll work through a plague, but if I have a fever, forget it. Fever means two things: 1) Generally that whatever it is I have is contagious. Granted, this one is minor to me. 2) My immune system is fighting. This one is important. If I sleep (rest) and let the immune system fight, I'll get over whatever it is more quickly than if I continue to make demands on my system as if it were 100% healthy. (Logically, this means I should not work through a plague either, but whatever.)
Plus, if a fever gets TOO high, one can cease to exist. While it's true that I've predicted my maximum life span, I'm hoping to be wrong -- and I'm not going to help it along intentionally.
Anyway, that's the major news of the update. I was sick, and now I'm over it.
In other news...
*insert some kind of fanfare sound effect*
Darron hit level 50!
In 2009, Darron was 44 when the year started.
I made a "resolution" (set a goal, actually) to try to get him to level 50 by the end of the year. In May that year, he hit 45. Ultimately, the goal was not met.
Until now.
Munchkin and I have been teaming up one of her empathy defenders with Darron, because he's been meeting more and more Elite Bosses (which I can't solo, usually), particularly with one of his current storyline contacts involving an alternate universe and the versions of Paragon CIty's signature heroes therein. Yes, I had to fight an alternate universe version of Statesman. To rescue Statesman, actually. Many faceplants on that mission, even with a healer.
So with Munchkin's help over the last year-ish, Darron had made it to level 49. And then I started beating up Circle of Thorns just outside of the Portal Corporation in Peregrine Island for the fun of it. Before I knew it, he was level 50!
As I stated in the linked entry, this is the first time I've ever gotten any character to the leveling cap of a MMORPG. This is a major and massive accomplishment for me -- especially since I don't spend every spare moment in-game. (Though I do spend many hours a year...)
To reward myself for reaching this massive accomplishemnt, I have created a Warshade. (Previously, one could not create a Warshade or Peacebringer without having a level 50 character. They recently (ish?) lowered that to level 20 -- much too low, in my opinion, to qualify for an "Epic" archetype. When the change was made, I resisted. For me, it was 50 or bust. I still can't make the Epic villains yet -- Surshe is only 43. She's next on my 50-push list.)
There is more to say, but I need to do some work-related stuff now. I hope to resume my daily-ish ramblings. Specifically, I want to talk about my ROW80 failure and the upcoming demise of flick-a-brac|2.0.
Until next time, Dear Journal...
