Running Round

When I did my first National Novel Writing Month in 2004, I wrote seventy thousand words, give or take. The following July, I finished the novel, and it weighed in at seventy-five thousand words. In 2005, I wrote nearly one hundred four thousand words, which gave me two completed novels. Since then, I have yet to finish any of the novels I've started in November.

In 2006, the reason was simple. I hated the story with every fiber of my being. I barely even scraped through the month with the required fifty thousand words, and I haven't even looked at the atrocity since. 2007 gave me a sequel to the 2004 novel, and while I won with sixty thousand words, my heart hadn't really been in it enough to go back to it. I skipped the Wrimo in 2008, but last year's ninety thousand word win has, once again, not been seen since November ended.

I want to end this trend. I want to either finish Frenemies by November 30, or keep writing it until it's done. I would also like to go back and finish Jabberwocky III and The Sivarta. In fact, I'd like to edit The Sivarta down so it's not a monster epic of nothing happening.

This is yet another of my famous Public Statements of Intent, and I'm sure it's being met with groans, eye rolls, and under-the-breath exclamations of "yeah, right"... but it's what I want. I'm fully aware that there is only one way for it to pass, and that if I don't put forth the effort, I won't finish. Still, I'm stating it. So there.

In "Meanwhile, back at the ranch" news, my computer arrived from Woot yesterday. I opened the tower first thing and installed the new video card. It was only then that I realized that I never got around to buying the DVI cables that were possibly at the root of the problem from the very beginning. (That was an expensive lesson.) So I still don't have a computer just yet.

I watched UnderCovers and attended Rachel's Sims 2 Challenges podcast. I was the only one there for a good portion of it. After she had begun quick tips, purplestarz also popped in (because I had reminded her via Plurk). All in all, it was a calm-ish evening, minus the computer-related swearing.

Today is this week's short day at work. Lazy-t will be picking me up early from work, and the plan is as follows, pending his approval: The intent is to see Red, which is playing at 3:45 at the Southpark Meadows. I have put in an order at Best Buy for my DVI cable, to be picked up in-store. We'll go get that, see the movie, record Spoiler Alert, and he'll be on his way home by 7:00.

Once he's left, I need to go to the store, eat supper, and bake cookies for the baby shower we're throwing here at work tomorrow. For an early day, I don't expect to be able to go to bed any earlier.

If I don't manage to get to the ESP tonight, I'll have to write that tomorrow. Munchkin and I will not be having our weekly date night tomorrow night.

Well, Dear Journal, that about wraps things up for this entry. I will talk to you tomorrow.
