Well, Dear Journal, I think the most important thing that's happened over the last 24 hours is that I ordered a new computer. I know, I know, I really can't afford it at the moment, but the price was too good to pass up. I stole some money from my "annual expenses" fund, to be replaced no later than Tax Refund time. None of the annual expenses accounted for in that fund are coming due before then, so I should be safe enough.
Like my netbook, this purchase was made at woot.com -- hence the urgency. One day, one deal. The central processor is slightly better than mine, the memory is WAY better than mine, and the hard drive is a full Terrabyte -- the same amount as my media drive. Plus, if I can figure out how to disengage and reinstall the hard drive on the old machine, I'll have another 400 GB drive. The only thing that I feel needs improvement is the video capacity, and if I read the specs right, I can install the video card I got last week... and hopefully without mucking the whole thing up like I did before.
I still need to replace my DVI cable, but other than that, I think we're good to go! My podcast will only have to have been on hiatus for a month, and even though I'm still planning the NaNoWriMo talk to be an Unscripted episode at this point, it will be an Unscripted with a local recording.
This is exciting stuff!
TV time was spent with No Ordinary Family, Raising Hope, Running Wilde (which I don't actively watch; it's just on), and Parenthood, followed by last week's UnderCovers. I like most of those shows. The two comedies in the middle are on the danger list in my book, but until there's an alternative for the one I really don't like, they're all gonna play on my TV.
I had been slightly concerned about one aspect of not having my computer: I had offered to make buttons for the Austin Penguins again. I'm still not sure exactly what I'm doing for those, but at least I'll be able to after all.
Speaking of National Novel Writing Month,
ivyclarice is joining the fray this year! That's fantastic news! She is teh awesome, you know. I can't wait to see her word count bar rise and rise.
My trip is in two days. I have to get up at 4:00 am Friday to be sure I'm ready to go. I don't anticipate being fully awake; perhaps I can nap briefly on the plane. I expect I will have to help lug stuff for Kim when we're all ready to go to the cabin (and then once we get there). There will be much fun, I'm certain. Very much looking forward to seeing her again.
Tonight's agenda: TV. More TV. Girls Night In Radio. Then chatting with Rachel for too long in the aftershow. I won't mind that too much, because I'm off work! Tomorrow is my prep for the trip day with a morning-ish movie snuck in there (prolly -- depends on the movie partner, really) to keep me from losing more of my marbles. I only have so many, you know.
Hopefully Tanya will have the ESP to me tonight or tomorrow, and I can maybe work on that while I'm away. You know, during the times I'm not with the rest of the party people for whatever reason. (It's not like I'm going to end up planning my November novel, after all.)
I'm calling it quits for this entry, Dear Journal. I cannot promise I will write in you while I'm away from work, but I will certainly update you when I return.
Until next time...
