[Hey look, butterflies. Know what she likes to do with those? Cat is as cat does.

Hence, this brief public service announcement brought to you while on the run down the street, sounding a little out of breath but not particularly terrified. Possibly ...revolted. And also, just possibly, there is a little blood on her chin.]Don't eat them, either ( Read more... )

mixed messages 101, it was right there okay?, look it was just once :|, because everyone eats butterflies, voice, not been a good week, action

[Katara has not been oblivious to the announcements, and that is exactly why she's out on the streets with her waterskin. And after Katie's display on the rooftops the other day, this is the last thing she expected to see. She's concerned.] Katie?

[Yeah, funny thing about those trees. Even if it weren't for the fact that what amounts to a piece of wood is a lot easier for her magic to latch onto than a demonic golem spawned from the inside of someone's intestines? She's kind of still a little low on glamour here. :|]

Katara!

[Which is of course why she skids to a halt ... right behind you. |D You can do scary things with water, go nuts.]

[See, she knows none of this. Just that you were able to flick the Green Lantern to Kefka. But those questions can wait when you dodge behind her - protective insticts pinged - and she glances to see five Teases a few feet behind.

Well, that won't do. Three of them are sliced neatly in half with fast, repeated sstrikes of a water whip, and then she sends out a stream of water to impact the other two, freezing them. She lets them fall to the ground and shatter.

Time to check on the running child. She turns around.] Are you okay?

[Running child - now hiding-behind-waterbender child - has blood on her chin, but no obvious injury.] ...I swallowed a bug.

[Pfft! And, oh no. /brb, Katie, all up in your business. A glowing hand is going to be placed on your head as Katara does an internal diagnostic. Not asking, sorry, you lose that courtesy when there's blood and man-eating bugs involved. A few moments pass as Katara looks for any other sign of life in Katie's body... she doesn't know what she'll do if she finds one, but...

...

And then a relieved smile.] Well, it doesn't seem as if it's done any lasting damage.

Do you think so? I wondered if it might turn me into a vampire by mistake.

A vampire? [Blink - what was a vampire? Well, not important now.] I don't think you have to worry about that. You might just feel a little stomach sick.

[And no, she's not going to fix it. She needs her energy and it will serve you right - how else will you learn?] I didn't see any bad energy in you, though, so you should be fine.

...why did you swallow a bug?

Vampires. They're allergic to human blood, you know. Goodness knows why they keep trying to drink it. I suppose it's like me and butterflies.

Do I have good energy, then?

[...why so cute, Katie? And CONFUSING, wut. Katara gallantly resists the urge to ruffle your hair.] Your chi looked like it was doing exactly what it was supposed to be doing - surrounding what was going to make you sick and fighting it off.

Really? My chi sounds very heroic. [Whatever chi is.] I hope it wins.

Well, if you start feeling really sick, you'll know to call for reinforcements. [She pats her waterskin.]

Would you like me to walk you someplace inside? There are buildings that are protected against them, and you shouldn't be fighting if you're not feeling well. Not when there are so many other people around who are fine.

Oh, I'm not fighting. [Not yet. She left her sword at home.] I thought I might just go home and hide under the bed.

[Eyebrow. Right. She believes that. And the sky is looking especially orange today, wouldn't you say? How do you respond to a silent skeptical look, Katie?]

[Sigh. All right, little child with strange powers and an odd inability to say something straight out - have it your way. But you'll be warned first, oh yes you will.]

You know the most important thing out on the battlefield? Making sure you're taking care of yourself first. Because if you become a problem, you can't help the people you want to help - instead, they have to find a way to help you. So if it gets too much for you, I want you to promise that you'll go somewhere inside that's safe. OK?
