Lost doggie

Mike went out to run some errands, but phoned a minute after leaving the house (flukily, he had signal) to say that there was a dog on the road with a collar but no tag.

I walked out with a bit of baler twine, and said hello to a slightly nervous but basically friendly little chap who looked like a tan-and-white bull terrier but without the funny-shaped head (maybe a staffy, now that I look at pictures online). When we got him back to the house, I called the vet and they said to bring him in and they'd scan for a chip and take it from there, so we took him out to the car and he happily jumped into the boot. Then he climbed over the back seat, jumped between the front seats, and curled up on the passenger side seat.... After a short attempt to coax him at least onto the back seat, Mike decided to leave him where he was on the grounds he'd probably behave and headed off again with a new item at the start of his list of errands.

Mike reports that he does have a chip but isn't registered with our vet, so they're going to keep him and try to track down the owner through the chip company: hopefully, the database will have up-to-date information on it.

On the off chance, I rang one of the Joint Masters, but she said that none of them had had anything like that with them. (Initially she thought I meant one of the hounds, and said "Oh, no, I've just had a phone call from [local horse business] saying they've got one in their stables!")

I hope he finds his way home!

Edit: Mike also posted a picture of him to a local Facebook group, where someone recognised him and told the owners, so hopefully he's back at home again now.
