Helping the Police with their enquiries

Apr 25, 2016 14:10

I was just feeding the ducks, post (rather-soggy) walk, when a police car drove past. Which was odd. I kept half an eye on it, and it stopped at TWWOTV's Pointless And Illegal Gate and then started to turn around. By the time I got out there, they were fully turned around and heading back towards our house.

"You can go on through," I said, and was thanked.

Then the passenger policewoman said "I don't suppose you know where the car park in for the woods is, do you?"

I pointed out that there were at least two, and more if you counted the little ones, and they looked stymied. Did they have any more information? At all? They did not.

Sudden inspiration: "Are you looking for the place where the woman had her car broken into during the dog training class over the weekend?" I suggested (NB that I only know this as we happened to walk past shortly after she found out, but hadn't seen anything as we'd taken a different route. It's not actually that everyone knows everyone's business in The Countryside). Indeed they were, so I gave them directions, which started with pointing at TWWOTV's P&LG and saying "through the gate, up the hill and into Bladbean".

"Do you know if the car was locked?" they asked in passing. I shrugged. I mean, how would I?

They thanked me profusely and then drove off in the same, wrong, direction that they were facing. If they squint a bit at my directions, they will end up at *a* car park in the woods, I suppose!
