German wheel, Arrival, Essure, my pod person dad

Continuing heavy stuff that I'm content to keep off-camera. I skipped two parties this weekend, one on purpose and one by accident; social things have been too much, lately.

Yesterday was frivolous and fun in a way that I hope was good for me, though. I did German Wheel workshops for four hours, which was good rolling fun; and then saw Arrival, the film, which in fact did do justice to Ted Chiang's story. They changed a few things, but they did well with the aliens writing complex sentences in a way that demanded they have the whole thing in mind at once. I guess that lent itself well to a visual interpretation. And the lead actress was perfect for the role.

Today I hatched an Aerodactyl in Pokemon Go, finally! Then I went to open studio and did the kind of workout that would be a bad idea if normal Monday classes were running this week: handstand practice, followed by hand-to-hand on everyone who asked me to work hand-to-hand.

On a down note, I learned from coraline that Essure is probably being pulled from the market soon... I guess that in February of this year the FDA issued a "black box" label to warn the public about the harmful complications associated with its use, and some people have had bad problems. My mother got pregnant with me despite having an IUD, and I love my permanent spring implants, so I'm glad I got it done while I still could.

In surreal news, my dad wrote again. He went with his wife to a Planned Parenthood meeting, and was writing to me about how he's reading up on the women's movement and on Margaret Sanger. ("I don't think the average woman really realizes how much is owed to those early pioneers", he says). Nobody here except the lurking say_shazam can possibly understand how weird this is. Who is this guy writing me and what has he done with my real dad?
