Celebrity

I don't think I'd ever want to be famous. I used to want to be; I used to think that being a famous actor would be really cool. I was wrong. Not only is being famous seemingly not fun, but its also so invasive. Watching those photographers on the news chase down celebrities without any regard for their privacy has really turned me off to the entire celebrity-world, not that I was ever in the running to be famous anyway. Still, I think if I had the opportunity to be famous I'd have to consider it since the money would be really good and I'd be able to do all of the traveling that I've always wanted to do. I think I'd be more careful about how I chose to be famous though, because I do think a lot of it is a choice. Most of the famous people that are filmed driving around Hollywood are obviously aware that they are going to be filmed by someone, so I don't have as much sympathy for them as I do for the other famous people who are minding their own business in the backyards.

The tape of Britney Spears smashing the SUV with an umbrella was really sick. The girl obviously has severe issues right now, and I'm not sticking up for her or justifiying her recent actions in any way whatsoever, but don't we all agree that she deserves some privacy? She's probably having a mental breakdown of some sort, and even if she isn't there is clearly something wrong with her. So do we need more tape of her with her bald head? We've all seen it; we all know what she looks like. I'd argue that we all probably also wouldn't want to have the kind of attention she's had lately. I really wish those freaky-ass photographers would leave her alone so that she can get the help she needs. I also hope that she finally does try to get the help that she needs by staying in rehab and focusing on getting better.

One celebrity that I am pretty displeased with these days is Tim Hardaway. If you don't know who he is, then all you really need to know is that he is a retired basketball player who is most famous, I think, for playing for Miami Heat. On February 14, 2007 he went on a radio show and gave some comments about another retired basketball player by the name of  John Amaechi who recently came out of the closet and announced that he is gay. Tim Hardaway's comments were that he, himself, his homophobic and that he would ask for any player who was gay to be removed from the team! He said he wouldn't feel comfortable in the locker room and that he in fact, "hates gay people." What an example he is, don't you think? In the year 2007 homosexuals are still being targeted by bigots like this freak who think that they are a lesser people. His comments are not only irresponsible but gross, and I think hugely embarassing for the NBA and all of the other industries that he is currently representing. I'm sure if somone called him the N word for being black, something he cannot help, he wouldn't think too kindly of that person and would probably feel anger toward their own ignorance. I'm also sure if someone said they hated him for his race it would be all over the news, as was the case with Michael Richards outlandish outburst. So why is it then that it is okay for him to be so cruel to a fellow retired basketball player simply because of his sexuality? He is supposed to be a role model for younger Americans and has instead decided to stay ignorant and spew his hatred across the airwaves. Of course, after some backlash, he apologized and tried to explain his remarks, but I'm not buying it. He should be ashamed, and more than that he should be taught about diversity and acceptance. What a freak. I have no respect for him.

And then there's Anna Nicole, and I don't have much to say about her except that I think she was a really, really messed up woman with a lot of emotional and drug-related problems. She needed help, and I'm not sure that anyone really had her best interests at heart including her fiance/lawyer, nor her mom. The judge in that case is another wacko and has made me wonder how he even ever got to be a judge in the first place. He should be removed from his position and given psychological testing himself.

So in the land of Hollywood there lays more controversy once again. Does it ever end? And when will our news providers start giving us the important news that actually affects all of our lives? When will the war in Iraq or our current education and health care systems be looked at as much as Nicole Richie's latest DUI? I for one am sick of all the noise that we are given from all of those tabloid entertainment shows and am ready to hear about some important news instead of this constant stream of junk we keep getting.
