The saddest email I've ever received:
It is not good news for Nicole. They are waiting now for her Uncle Ian to arrive this afternoon around 4.00pm and the doctors will be removing the tubes etc and Phil will be allowed to slip away peacefully.
Nicole knows that your thoughts and prayers are with her and the family

And my thoughts are definitely with them. Even though I hadn't seen Phil since he jovially marched out of the office to start his new job about a month before I left, this has still left me pretty shellshocked. My heart is breaking for everyone that was close to him - I know this is going to hit some of my former colleagues pretty hard and he was a great guy who adored his wife, dog and fishing. Even when Shaun emailed me earlier in the week to tell me about Phil's condition ... I hoped and thought that once he got through the the first week or so after his heart attack and slowly but surely he'd be okay and wondering what all the fuss was about. I guess the universe had other plans ... and I'm really sorry that he's gone.
Rest In Peace, Phil.
