So I finally got out of my game slump and started building and decorating and setting up families. Thus far I've only dealt with two households, the first that of the town's priest and his sister, the second of the kindly Dupin family, named after the father of all mystery stories, Auguste Dupin (a detective of Edgar Allan Poe's creation).

So, if you're interested in decor, French people and/or canines, read on!

The Dupin Family

I beg you will be patient with me. I am not very good at commenting on my own pictures, so I'll try my best to make explanations when necessary.

I was inspired by the "shabby chic" style. Do you see the door? I have decided that it is my absolute favorite Maxis texture, and as such am on a mission to find every bit of CC with that smexy texture.

I call this the "Wee Horror Vacuui Garden." It's amazing what you can do with a bit of move_objects on and snapobjectstogrid false.

This is the juncture between the kitchen and dining area. It's pretty. Need I say more?

This picture requires explanation. It is indeed the living room, but it is positioned just one level below the rest of the first floor. Unfortunately, at that level, you can't really see walls, and furthermore, if you go up a level, everything on the level below disappears. It's very irritating. But I was pleased with the decor nonetheless.

I would have been better pleased had there been a version of stairs textured in the aforementioned texture I am in love with. However, I had to settle with these. I like it that you can use the side of the staircase for decor, if you are mildly clever.

The dining. I think this can help better to illustrate what I was talking about with the two levels. I'm rather pleased with the usage of the balustrade rather than walls--it makes the space more open. Also, I decided to go with multiple chairs rather than one type. It gives it more of a thrift store feel, I think.

The master bedroom. I have a problem with crafting bedrooms. I get the idea of what the room shape would look like--and then when I've allotted the rooms, it turns out they're not big enough to hold a bed for two sims who need to sleep at the same time and/or "procreate." More on this soon.

The smallest bedroom ever. I assume this will be their spawn's room, when they have one. Because of the problem mentioned above, I had to cut this room in half so that I could give Mme et M. Dupin a double bed. Their child is going to end up claustrophobic and scarred for life. Ooops!

One more of the itsy bitsy bedroom, just for the heck of it.

This is Babette Dupin. I haven't decided her fate quite yet. I know only that she's a portly and kindly woman who actually would like to have a family. I'll figure out the rest later. I think she'll end up doing something creative. But no writing vampire novels, I promise.

An extra shot of Babette. She's wearing a saint medal of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and founder of the Franciscan order of monks.

I was messing around with CAS and it turned out that the person who initially came up had something of an unfortunate nose. Well, I decided to make it a tad more unfortunate, and so named him Cyrano. He's somewhat moody, keeps to himself, etc.

A better picture of his unfortunate nose. I'm pleased with it because even though the nose is a bit absurd, he looks otherwise fairly natural, which I appreciate in my homely Sims. (Personally, I rather fancy the fellow.)

They came with a mutt dog of uncertain heritage, Jean Valjean, named after Hugo's protagonist in Les Miserables. I really appreciate how he began tearing up the garden pretty much as soon as he got there.

And he got the smack down by Cyrano. You really can't do something like that and expect to get off.

Finally, because I'm a sentimental nutter, here's a cute picture. I wish my graphics were a bit spiffier, because then you could get a better idea of the texture of Jean Valjean's coat, etc. Oh well.

Well, that's it. Nothing very lulzy but it's the first time I've bothered with the game for more than a few minutes at a time--and for more than at least a month.

Something more interesting soon.....
