Pan’s Labyrinth last Friday was good. A sort of postmodern fairy tale set against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War. I was teary-eyed at the end; something which doesn’t happen too often nowadays

but is it sexist to call an unpleasant woman a slag? (I'm not sure and I would usually only use the term jokingly with friends or in the "to slag something off" sense).

It all depends on context and in this particular case it wasn't said in jest.

I know but as insulting an unpleasant as it is to call somebody that, is it sexist? Because if one woman is calling another woman that, where is the sexism?

A woman can be a sexist by stereotyping other women as much as, for instance, a black person can internalize racism toward his or her own race.
