International Craft Expo

I hit creative input overload this weekend. Saturday at the Louvre, and Sunday at the l'aiguille en fête, le salon international broderie, couture, tricot... (international expo for hand-craft artisans). Wow.

The fact that my box of hand-craft supplies/projects is still MIA, tempted me to buy lots of stuff, but I resisted. One of my goals in going was to learn more about lace-making. I was well rewarded, because they had a side room set up with many people demonstrating and exhibiting their work. I picked up several pamphlets about organizations and places to take classes. There was also a group learning how to make silk flowers from Prudence Millinery (UK). www.prudencemillinery.com/flower.htm I watched them enviously for awhile. Some of the most amazing displays said no photos.

My daughter Kelsey is on the left in the middle picture. It was mesmerizing to watch the bobbins being rotated.

The middle picture is an embroidered fabric remnant from Lesage (famous French company that has been making silk flowers and embroideries since the 18th c.). It was created for  one of Grace Kelly's dresses for her wedding to Prince Rainier. Lesage had a display of about 6 pieces of embroidery - all of them beautiful. On the right are my goodies from a vintage seller. The middy braid is the tiniest I have ever seen. The larger braid is a beautiful and unusual pattern. The dots are pieces of jet pierced for sewing onto garments. I've usually only found jet beads, which techically these are, but these are only facetted on one side so they will lay flat on the fabric.

This last picture is of an amazing hair-do I took at the Louvre. i was so excited to see this kind of hair style represented in 3-D.

It was a fabulous weekend. I have ideas for more projects than I can possibly hope to accomplish in my lifetime. And I look forward to embellishing my gowns and accessories more elaborately than I have in the past.
