and they're like, it's better than that

Two dessert shops this time, because lunch comes after breakfast and lunch is breakfast, or something. Mostly because I'm in the area and I can't resist. Or probably because D. it is written. Or, a whole lot of other things, actually, the point being, I have been eating nothing but sweets lately. Seriously. Cake for breakfast and ice-cream for lunch and stuff like that. /stares at belly. Um, at least my pants still fit?

Ganache Chocolate

Passionflower
Shop 2, 168 Bourke Street

In Ganache I ordered a Pear Caramel cake and an espresso, and in retrospect I should've ordered something, you know, chocolate. Because the shop's name is Ganache Chocolate and not Ganache Caramel or Ganache Pear.

It's not bad, although I've had better. It's just that all my friends are all like 'Ganache squeeeee xD' and I'm probably expecting too much, but hey, it's a pretty well-known cakeshop. Or maybe I've been spoiled by the pavlova I had last week, which was seriously awesome, so this falls just a bit flat. Still, there are good points. The caramel mousse, while a bit sweet and rather uneven, has this really awesome aftertaste of caramel - just the slightest bit burnt sugar, a teeny-tiny bit of bitterness. The pears are okay, a little too soggy for my liking but apparently my friend likes it that way. And I can't taste pears. I think I've forgotten the taste of pears. I'd have to say the best part is the cake. THE CAKE. It's probably too moist for some people but I looooove moist cakes, and this cake is crumbly and nutty and has nut pieces in it and I think it's drizzled with some sugar syrup - either that or pear juice but I have forgotten the taste of pears, right - and it's really fresh and complements the thick caramel nicely. I like the nuts of top too, has nice flavour, except I don't know what nut it is. The chocolate piece on top is, well, chocolate. It's awesome, what can you expect from chocolate.

The espresso is, I don't know, I'm not a coffee connoisseur and I rarely drink coffee for anything else but the caffeine. It's pretty good? Too acid for my liking, but it's thick and creamy which I don't know how an espresso could be because there's no milk but apparently espressos are creamier than regular coffee trufax. Must be the foaming or something - I don't know coffee. But they serve this biscuit thing with the espresso and that's pretty good. It's light like meringue but it's cracklier and harder, sort of like the texture of burnt sugar and really crumbly - one bite and the crumbs fly everywhere. There's a hint of something like butter but not - savouriness? I'm not sure what 'gurih' is in English. Comes with the use of salted butter in sweet things, that kind of flavour, and it's pretty nice. And nutty, too. Hazelnut. This time I know the nut, because I'm a Nutella fan the whole nut smack-dab in the middle of the biscuit has nothing to do with my ability to identify.

And, not in the picture but they gave water. Lol. Lemony water and anything with lemon gives plus plus points. Actual lemon, of course, not the fandom sense of the word.

It's $7.50 for the cake and $2.80 for the espresso. It's a small cake so I'm not sure if it's worth it, but eh, it's all right. The price doesn't break roofs or anything, and the cafe itself is all right. There's this really soft music going on and it's a comfy place, and the waiters are nice and friendly and wear hot suits lol.

Now, Passionflower is a different story. See, I wanted something fresh so I ordered this thing called Geisha San - I don't know why it's named and formatted such but that's the way it is. I did take pictures but somehow my memory card ate them up, so I grabbed some pics from flickr. (Without permission, so if the owner finds me, well, thank you and sorry and I'll take it off if the owner wishes so). Courtesy of here and here.

Yeah. Looks better than it tastes, actually. It's Green Tea and Lychee Rose flavour - I don't know what's up with the 'Rose' part, I can taste something yes but it's not like I've eaten roses before. And from what I know, 'rose' flavour is like those rose bandung drinks they sell in Singapore and somehow I don't think that's it.

I'm not too impressed with the Green Tea ice-cream, because I've eaten some really good green tea ice-creams before, ones that actually has that deep green tea taste; this one's not it. Too sweet for green tea, methinks. And the Lychee Rose's not lychee or fresh enough and stuff - basically the flavours aren't... deep enough. But well, it's ice-cream. It's cold. I think taste buds are less sensitive in the cold? But yea, I've had better. And the compote, orange and lychee is just that, orange and lychee. Pretty good, really fresh. It's been so long since I've had lychee, eee.

One of the problems I had was that the glass was too tall. It's a stupid problem, lol, but the glass I had actually tipped over because of the shaky table. Luckily it was almost finished anyway but wow, that should not happen. Glasses should be stable. But I have a tendency to drop even the most stable of objects so I can't blame the glass on this one, haha.

The ice-cream's $15. Too expensive, much too expensive for the taste, I think. Wouldn't be coming back here if not for my friends, who seem to love it for the 'modern' atmosphere - you know, hip hop music as opposed to jazz and stuff. Nothing against jazz, omg I love jazz, but Passionflower does have a pretty awesome playlist, haha.
