guilty

As I started packing tonight, something I'd suspected was proven true: I own a lot of clothes and shoes. I mean, a lot. Three discoveries I've made while in SB have greatly contributed to this fact:

1.) That on the State Street commercial strip, Anthropologie is perhaps one of the cheapest retail boutiques (not counting the two tween/teen fast-fashion stores). Most of anthro's clients here don't spend hours culling the sales racks, and therefore I've made a habit of doing so, snapping up pieces left, right, and center - most for $20 and under, but a handful for more.

2.) That the Ross in SB has an incredible dress and shoe selection in my size. Calvin Klein, Tahari, and Liz Claiborne dresses to tempt in one category, Michael Kors, CK, and Diego di Lucca to tempt in another. Again, I've stockpiled. *cringe*

3.) I discovered a great clothing exchange online. So now, when I do my aggressive culls every 2-3 months, I usually end up putting the clothes aside and exchanging them for similar items, rather than actually reducing the # of clothes I own.

Shame, Sarah. Shame, shame shame. I have five pairs of boots. Granted, they are (I think) my favorite style of footwear, but really, who needs 5 pair? Geez! I just packed over a dozen dresses. Who needs a dozen dresses? Shame, Sarah.

Seeing as I just/finally found a vest, a piece I've been looking for at an affordable price for almost a year, I'm taking this as a golden opportunity to make a resolution. Clothes/shoes/accessories buying ban. There are exceptions: underwear, tights, the occasional thrift score, maybe one pair of shorts this summer - if there's a decent, plain pair at BR, with the 4" inseam that I like, and on sale. But I'd like to see if, for...hm. 2 or 3 months, I can just NOT buy for me. Honestly, I should go even longer - I've been swapping for and loading up on pieces for fall and winter, buying wool and velvet since I got my acceptance letter to UW. I should have plenty of "new" and "new to me" options, come September. So yes. That's it. I think I even need to limit my raw-materials purchases, must use up the stash of materials. It's rather like last summer, to be honest. So yes. I have oodles of wardrobe to play with, plenty of fabric to create more, and swapping is perfectly acceptable.

Any rooting/encouragement/check-ins much appreciated. I remember that, when I made a similar resolution a couple of years ago, at first it was very hard, but it wasn't long before (after rigidly adhering to the no-buy rule) the whole process lost its hold over me and I was free, cheerfully unfettered. So that's what I'm working for, because I am rightfully ashamed of myself right now. Bad, bad Sarah.

Ok. Time for bed. Or a snack. I don't know. I slept most of the afternoon/evening (from like 5:30 until 9?) and my internal clock's on the fritz now. Perhaps I'll get some reading done beforer sleep.
