of wine, that is. Set me back a pretty penny, even with the case discount.
Yes, today was wine-country-day. Our first trip since last August (? or Sept?), so it's been awhile. We came home with 19 bottles. I won't say how much. Our picks, by vineyard:
Foxen:
the "lemon drop" chardonnay X 2
the Williamson-Dore vineyard syrah X 1
Kenneth Volk (my case):
the Santa Maria Chardonnay (apple notes with grain, and a definitive nuttiness): X 3
the Negrette (a favorite red table wine) X 2
the Mouvedre (2004, an older vintage, coconut at the fore) X 3
the Claret (another fave) X 2
the Pinot Noir (sprightly raspberry fruit) X 2
Tres Hermanas (recommended by one of our servers at Foxen, pretty much a wash as far as wines, rather Fess Parker in terms of atmosphere)
the Dos Blanc (chenin blanc and savignon blanc; tropical fruits) X 1
Andrew Murray (some good syrahs, nothing else worthwhile)
the South Slope Syrah 2005 (bright fruit, just enough spice to keep things sparkling) X 3
Oh, when eating becomes an art. What fun we'll have with these!
