Trying to get my car to the shop yesterday was a whole new kind of FAIL. I'm debating whether or not to call the insurance company and explain to them exactly what happened, or if I'll even get anything out of it anyway (I have roadside assistance on my car insurance, rather than a separate plan like AAA).
It took five hours to finally get the car towed. Five hours, and four tow trucks. To go five blocks.
The first two tow trucks they sent to the wrong side of town. After the first one called me and told me they were at (my street name) North and they couldn't find my car, and I explained that that was likely due to my car being at (my address) South, I figured we were good. No, they send a 2nd company to THE SAME ADDRESS on the WRONG side of town. Another call wondering why my car isn't at (my street name) North. Because I don't live there. Huh. In between all of this, imagine at least 15 calls from the automated service checking on whether it's been towed or not, of course.
Finally they figure out where I live and send out Bobby&Steve's to tow it. A guy from there calls me and says that they are there and I'm not ... again, true, like I told the dispatcher. They don't do unattended tows, which is the first time this has been brought up to me, but this guy tells me that he will make an exception. An hour later, I get home from work and the car is still there. I call the dispatch service and yell at the lady, who blatantly lies and says I didn't tell her that I wasn't there, and says someone has to be there to sign for it. Fine, I'm home now, send them back. I then call Bobby&Steves and get a pile of attitude form the guy who told me he would make an exception for me and clearly did not. Finally tow truck #4, also from Bobby&Steves, shows up and I gear up with coat and boots to go out and meet him so I can sign for the towing. He's adorable and gets me all hooked up to the tow truck while we commisserate on what a weird night it's been. He gets done and is all, 'ok, well, have a good night'. I ask if I have to sign something and he looks at me like I'm a fool and says "No". I nearly lose it at this point and I tell him that the only reason I came out there was because they told me I had to sign. He then says, "They told me I had to meet you because you were going to give me the keys".
The keys which had been in the car all. frigging. day.
