McGrath State Beach is located in the quaint town of Oxnard, CA, just a short drive from Los Angeles (so short, in fact, that you can still notice the effects of the brown smog that engulfs the city). It is convenienty located right off US 101 (you can still hear the cars driving by from your campsite and the constant drone of buzzing electrical lines. at night, you can see sparks from the line connections). Each site is located close to the beach (a half mile walk is pretty close right?), you just have to walk over a few sand dunes and you are there (and around a very large bird preserve. once you get around the bird preserve, you have to walk 500 yds to a precariously placed log in order to cross the mucky bog)! The beach has plenty of wildlife (some dead birds) for animal lovers. A popular spot for campers young and old (and those who enjoy blasting loud metal in the morning), McGrath State Beach is a great spot for the weekend (if you are more into tailgating near an oil refinery than camping in the great outdoors).

But it wasn't so bad, got to hang with the cousin and drink some beers.
