Me and three of my closest friends went to Madison, WI for last weeks football match.
The preface to this post must say this: Everyone (mostly everyone) was extremely nice to us in Madison. We all had a great time and loved every minute of it.
I could weave a complex story full of excitement and adventure, but it would take years to complete. Instead, I will create a list. Here it is.
-We left state college at 10 on thursday night. We arrived in Madison at 9:00 am and killed time until we could find a bar that would sell us beer.
-We ordered brats and beers at state street brats. its was delicious and uneventful.
-We went to "irish pub" and bought drinks to drink on the patio. we met up with the penn state pep band. they went on to climb the capitol building and play the penn state fight song from its tower. WE ARE PENN STATE!!
-We toured the UW campus. It is completely awesome. Go there if you don't like Penn State. If you do, go to Penn state. It is better.
-We went to Wando's. The bartender's were awesome, they gave us tons of good advice. We loved them.
-Went to the church key. They had $2 pitchers of PBR. We drank a lot of them. Then doug and his parents met us. We were all too drunk to be talking to parents.
-Friday night was a big blur. We made a lot of friends, most importantly at the church key. we met a bartender named sarge who loved us. he took care of us that night and the rest of the weekend.
-roommatechris got into a verbal fight with an african american female because he said "excuse you." she threw her shoes at him. her BF made sure that we weren't mad.
-we approached a group of wisconsin females, wondering where a dance club might be... we wanted to get our boogy on. they (all 5 of them) wanted to kill us. out of nowhere... 10 Penn State fans rescued us and drove the UW biatches outta the area.
-we slept in our car, which apparently is illegal. a cop told us that if anyone complained, we would be forced to drive drunk. cops are stupid. after the cop woke us up, I threw up 4 times, in 4 different places. the next morning, i threw my socks out. they smelled like vomit.
-tyler was a go getter that morning. he woke us all up 5 times, the last time he came back with food and a case of beer. we all loved him for that.
-we went to Mickey's Dairy Bar, where we found out where all the PSU tailgaters and the PSU alumni tent would be. we started tailgating at 10.
-we met some people who started a tradition involving jager shots. Ever hour on the half hour, we all sing the fight song and take a shot.
-we met some other people on the other side of the lot who did a chug line every half hour on the hour. it turned into a hundred person event in which you chug your beer and run down the hundred yard long line high fiving and chest bumping everyone. when everyone was done, we'd all collapse in a circle and jump up and down to Zombie Nation.
-this strict regiment of drinking and raising hell lasted until 6, when we left for the game. we walked around Camp Randall soaking in the atmosphere, which mostly consisted of "asshole asshole" chants directed at us from the frats.
-we went to a convenience store across the street and got forties to kill some time before heading in. as we were standing on the corner drinking our brown bags of victory, someone mentioned that it would be funnier if we stood under the sign that said "Open Intox - $300 Fine." Woops. This concept was foreign to me, so we panicked and ran to some grass.
-we met some more PSU alums, one of which wasn't drinking because she had to go breastfeed. after that, she came back and drank a beer with us.
-we went in the game. I don't think i have to talk about that part.
-we went out to the bars after the game. I called doug to join us, and he told me I was not welcome in Madison anymore.
-we went to the church key and met up with Sarge, the bartender from Friday. He made sure everyone knew that we were cool and to be nice to us. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we had a good time.
-One girl pressured me to hook up with her friend.
-I got dragged up onto the bar to dance with 4 other girls.
-Bartenders gave us free shots. They also cut our tabs in half at the end of the night.
-I met a guy in AFROTC who ended letting us stay at his place after he heard we were sleeping in our car.
-Sarge invited us to his Apt. after the bars closed. On the way there we flipped over a car that a frat had painted blue and white for smashing.
-We got pizza, and I did the Thriller dance.
-Sarge had passed out, so we went back to Air Force Dave's apartment and passed out.
This is the end of the story. One of my favorite weekends in college by far. I'm sure I missed some things, but I'm tired of typing and have to leave soon.
I highly recommend Madison to anyone thinking of going to an away game.
