i really, really like this. i like how sam takes "like the gun?" as an opportunity to distance himself from his family and the hunting, i like how jessica answers him, i love dean's "awesome" after sam kills the zombie (also? EW), and i really love that in the end, sam at least accepts that this is who he is. (even if he doesn't seem particularly pleased about it, and who can blame him, if being like the gun means squishing zombie brains through the zombie's eyesockets.)

Loved it!
This part particularly, cause I can picture it in my head so clearly:
He sighs and wipes his hands off on his jeans.

"Yeah," he says. "Like the gun."

Great job!

Oh, this is absolutely wonderful. Wonderful!

Which is not very useful feedback, but that's really all I can say right now. : )

Oh, I like this a lot! Aside from the excellent point you make about Sam's realtion to his family/family name, it made me grin because my last name tends to get me the reply of "Like the [common product]?" and I often want to answer, "No, like the [far less common product]." ;)

I'm very happy it worked for you! And yes, I also have a similar nuisance with my surname - people feel compelled to hum a certain theme tune at me and I guess you know how quickly that sort of thing gets old. ;)
