too bad to even be enjoyable

In HP fandom, there were these couple of posts where everyone was invited to post their photo, in a loose "who's hotter: writers or artists?" competition. Before I give you entirely the wrong impression of HP fandom, it wasn't really a contest at all, it was just the context for a picture post. And it started off writers/artists, but obviously there were betas/vidders/readers/all the rest of the fandom community taking part.

I was just thinking about that today, and trying to weigh up whether the delight and surprise in matching faces to usernames was worth giving up the fairly liberating experience of being known only for what you choose to put out there.
