We're having a cold snap that's set to last longer than any other cold weather has over the last three years. And yeah, I know I've had to turn on the water in the basement to stop pipes freezing in recent winters, but I've never before had the odd ache that titanium steel knees undergo at these temps. Presumably in other polar vortices I just stayed in until things got back above -5C. But yesterday I wanted stamps and furnace filters, which meant walking over to Spadina, and yeah. Leg felt really weird. And of course going to a postal outlet on a Monday is probably a bad idea, even if said outlet is open on the weekend. Too right: seven people in a line that didn't move so no stamps for me.
I also wanted a copper bracelet to see if that would help with my elbows. All their copper ones were size small so I bought a copper brace instead, which turns out to be a lightweight fabric that's much more comfortable than the neoprene braces I bought at the surgeon's recommendation in October. (Bro gave me a Shoppers gift card for silly amounts of money at Xmas so I felt I could indulge.) I can't believe copper works like that, let alone 'magnetic bracelets', but a brace is a brace and it keeps my elbow warm. Shall get another next time I try to buy stamps, which won't be until we get out of -10C weather and -17C wind chills.
Also got my filters and a carbon monoxide monitor from Wiener's so I don't have to rely on delivery from amazon or Canadian Tire or other people who are not kind to infinitely bendable filters.
Dentist calls today to see if I'm enrolled in the dental plan. For once someone seems to have their act together: they bill the company in advance for what they expect the visit to cost so all I get dinged for is the copay. Of course my dentist loves to find other things needing attending to that she will attend to at the time, like the small cavity she wants to fill on a front tooth, but at least I hope this time I won't be shelling out 700 bucks at a shot. Mind, roundabouts and swings, my dental bills are a large part of my health costs that get deducted from income, so the gov't gives it back to me at tax time. But still this may mean I needn't hit my money people for a top up every time I go to the dentist.
