I feel that the question, "Why do you feel you should be accepted?" is one that should exist on all applications. I believe this question is important because it shows insight as to why the applicant feels he or she would contribute to the school. I feel I should be accepted to the Indiana Academy because I have well formed opinions, I have always enjoyed new things, and I also feel that I could somehow add to the Indiana Academy.

I have strong, well formed opinions. I am also capable, and willing, to see all sides of an issue, but I am not ashamed of anything that I believe in, and I hold that to be some of my best qualities. I have opinions in politics, and I was very involved with the election this year. I made shirts, stickers, and posters that advertised my feelings toward the current president. While many of my classmates criticized me for my negative beliefs, they remained the same and I continued to publicize them in hopes of somehow affecting the election, as I could not vote myself. I am not ashamed of anything that I believe in, and I hold that to be one of my best qualities.

I have also always been willing to accept new challenges, learning new things at every possible opportunity. For example, I enjoyed both years I was on the junior high Spell Bowl team and all of the challenges it held. I enjoyed how it increased my vocabulary along with the satisfaction it presented. I love to experience new things, and while I know my weaknesses and strengths, I continue to work at both in an attempt to better myself in every way possible. I have been on both athletic and academic teams, but I find I enjoy mind challenges more than anything I found in athletics. I have also always been an avid reader, thus resulting in my love for adventure.

I feel that I could contribute to the Indiana Academy’s already well-known reputation. I am a fast learner, and in the future I plan to attend a liberal arts college. I hope to become a journalist once all of my schooling is complete. I have always enjoyed writing to publicize my views, and I have written for and designed many websites for that sole purpose. I believe that my ambitions and your studies combined would create a strong foundation for my future, as well as a great experience to look back on.

I've long desired to attend the Indiana Academy. I feel that my previous pursuits have prepared me well and that the opportunities there will enrich me. My ambitions fit well with the goals and strengths of the Academy and I strongly believe that the relationship would be beneficial not only for myself, but for the school as well.

1. In three to five sentences present your feelings about living away from home.

I have always wanted to leave home to attend school. I can remember being a child and telling my mother that I wanted to be one of the girls who attended boarding schools with their friends merely seconds away. I have also been inclined to do well in situations that involve staying the night in places other than home. I feel that living away from home in a situation in which I could learn would not only be a great experience, but also a great way to better my social skills as well as my education.

2. In three to five sentences describe how you handle stressful situations.

In a stressful situation I have been known to ignore my own feelings and do what is right. If I am lost in a pile of homework, I will choose to complete it rather than call a friend or log onto the internet. I was absent for most of the school year during ninth grade, yet I still came out with passing grades in all classes other than gym and art. I can remember hand writing ten page essays for Mr. Memmer, my biology teacher, and writing reviews over every act of Romeo and Juliet for my English teacher, Miss Dorfmeyer. I feel that I am my best when faced with a stressful situation.

3. In three to five sentences discuss your time management skills.

I have been told by many teachers, peers, and family members that I am skilled in managing my time. I set my priorities based upon what I feel is important, along with what I know is important. I have been known to have my work completed on time, and when faced with a meeting between friends I cannot think of a time that I was late. In my past experiences I have found that I do not work well when I hurry things. As a result of this, I have learned to manage assignments accordingly to when they are due to assure that my finest work is produced.
