I feel like I should have hobbies outside of fandom, if only so that I can talk to non-fandom people about them.

Riight? I have the same feeling. I dunno exactly what I can do about it. What do people even do? Crafts? I could craft. Sports? I could not do sports. Hmmm.

It's such a great poem! Super, super famous, so I think some people get sick of it, but there's a reason it's famous after all.

I found the Lowell translation/adaptation of the original:

I always wanted to learn how to knit or something. But honestly, even knitting isn't something that a lot of random people are going to be particularly passionate about.

Yes! We should definitely do a thing when you feel better. Maybe before my mad dash to write research papers that look like I've been working on them all semester starts. Though after is probably better lol.

I know several people who are passionate about knitting ... I am rather passionate about quilting :D

I have lots of hobbies/interests outside of fandom. I think it's good to have a balance. Also, I got into fandom kind of late in life.

Yeah, one of my best friends is really into knitting and another does scrapbooking. Crafty people must stick together or something.

I think that I probably got into fandom too early to ever be able to completely separate fandom from my other interests. Sports was my last holdout and now I like hockeyrpf...

I think it's totally fine for fandom to be your one and only hobby. There are so many things to do within it. I've learned all kinds of new things from being in fandom. Hey, if it keeps you happy, it's all good!
