How does one commemorate something as big as 9-11? You try to honor those who perished and hope that their families and loved ones have found a bit of peace. I think it's deplorable that Bin Laden has nor been caught but my faith in the military is strong. I remember my father going down to that site day after day, week after week trolling through the biggest crime scene in NYC history. The best you can do is remember.
Then I remember how great this country is and that this is the greatest city in the world and I am honored to live here with so many people who are so different and that those differences are as important as they are beautiful. Those differences can bring us beauty that will last long after the horror of one nightmarish day. One of the most fantastic pieces ever choreographed is George Balanchine's 'Jewels', it is a three act ballet. Balanchine was a true citizen of the world and the different cities he lived in inspired him to create this ballet in three acts. 'Emeralds' evoked Paris, 'Diamonds' was St. Petersberg and 'Rubies' was New York City. It is easily my favorite of the three and it's rarely found online since the Balanchine Foundation is a stickler for removing his work from You Tube. Balanchine became a US citizen in 1940 and what's a better way to pay tribute to NYC and the country as a whole than to celebrate how our immigrants have gifted us so many times over?
