favorite character meme revisited

Apr 06, 2005 17:41

I thought I would make a separate post to explain why I like these characters since it took me so long to do so. To recap for the newcomers, I posted a list of fandoms, you guys guessed my favorite character from each one.

1. Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon - Aino Minako. I have fangirled over her countless times, but I'll try to recap here. I love her because she puts on a happy face and is great fun to be with, even though she is hurting inside. I love her devotion to both Usagi and her dream to be an idol (or her actual idol-dom as in the live action). I dunno, she just has this essence about her that I love and that I am drawn to. She used to be the anime character that I thought I was most like, I'm not sure about that anymore, but we definitely share a lot of common traits.

2. Fruits Basket - Honda Tohru. Tohru! I love how she always says the right things. I love how she's such a great friend to everyone. I love how she sees the good in everyone. I love the way how she lets people walk all over her and she never gets mad. I think her cluelessness is cute. I love how she's always smiling. And I'm sorry, but I love how she keeps her problems to herself in an effort to keep everyone happy. That is so something I would do. Other people's happiness are more important to her than her own, and I can so empathize with that.

3. Tenkuu no Escaflowne - Dryden Fassa. Eeee, I love Dryden. I love how he doesn't take himself seriously. I love his general outlook on life. From when we first see him "Mermaids belong in the sea, and they should be smiling," you can really tell he respects life and doesn't consider himself higher than anyone else. Even if he is a little egotistical sometimes, but I think that's part of how he doesn't take himself seriously. I also love how he's a pacifist. He wanted to solve problems with economic sanctions instead of war. He's my hero. *_*

4. Hagane no Renkinjutsushi - Ed. It took me awhile to figure out which Hagaren character was my favorite. In the end, I'm not sure why I didn't figure it out sooner. I love Ed, he reminds me of me a little bit. He has a little bit of a guilt complex because it was his idea to try and use alchemy to bring back his mom, so he feels totally responsible for Al's fate and is trying so hard to get his body back. I can empathize with guilt, very easily :P. I also love how Ed really doesn't like the idea of killing people. I guess this would be an obvious one since he is only 15 and 15-year-olds usually aren't known for liking killing people, but who knows. I also love how, despite everything, you don't see Ed moping a whole lot. He often has that cheesy grin on his face. I love him.

5. Lord of the Rings - Gandalf. Augh, I love Gandalf. I love his personality. He's someone you can count on, he's responsible, he has wisdom of someone who has been around a loooong time, and he's even got a sense of humor to boot. He's freaking cool cause he's a wizard and he can do cool things with fireworks and his staff. Flame of Undun! I wish Gandalf were my grandad.

6. Rurouni Kenshin - Kenshin. Kenshin is an interesting character. I love how his atonement is living in and of itself, because death would be a far easier way out. I love how he smiles and makes those funny "oro?" sounds at just the right times. I love his philosophy on most things and I love how he gets awesome lines. I love how he helps people. Also, when he shows his Battousai side, that really fascinates me. There's an episode I like to play over and over but I won't say which one so as to not spoil. It's at the beginning of the Kyoto arc though. Oh!! And I LOVE how Kenshin is a pacifist. ^___^ Pacifists rock!

7. .hack//SIGN - Tsukasa. Tsukasa is an interesting deviation from the kind of character I usually like. He's not happy at all most of the time. In fact, he's quite dreary. But he fascinates me because of his conflict. I love watching him through the series as he has to learn that in order to return to the real world, he has to want to go there. And I can empathize with not wanting to return to the real world. Oh, how I can empathize, especially if you compare "The World" with just the internet in general.

8. Hellsing - Integral. Integral is kickbutt. You listen to her, do what she says, and everything will go smoothly. Don't cross her. She's just cool *_*. I also love her backstory and how she didn't become who she is now that easily. She used to be a scared little kid, too.

9. Kannazuki no Miko - Himeko. Again, another character that reminds me of me. Her personality, the things she says, the things she does, everything. She's cute, too. And the way she assumes everything is her fault reminds me of me *shifts eyes*.

10. Maria-sama ga Miteru - Shimako. She's gorgeous, but that's not why I love her. I am actually having a hard time remembering why I love her so much at the moment, though. I do have good reasoning, I swear! It's just been awhile since I've seen this show.

11. Card Captor Sakura - Yue. Yue!! Wings. Wings. WINGS!!! *coughs* Um, besides that, I love how he's so devoted to his masters (both of them). And as usual I'm intrigued by the whole separate personality thing. That kind of thing just really fascinates me for some reason.

12. Read or Die OAV - Yomiko. She's cute, she's a bookworm, and she can save the world. What more can you ask for?

13. Gundam Wing - Zechs Merquise. Oooh, it's been awhile since I've seen GW. But I vaguely remember loving how he fights for what he believes in, even if it's in the wrong way. And I love how he cares of his sister, even if from afar. And he's gooood looking, too.

14. Azumanga Daioh - Sakaki. Sakaki is so cute, even if her affection for cats is a little misplaced. I love how she wants to be little and cute even though she's so cool looking *_*. Plus she really does have a cute personality. I love how she doodles little cats everywhere.

15. Megatokyo - Erika. Yes, this is a change. Miho finally got annoying to me with her "Oooh look at me I'm so mysterious! Keep guessing about me and I still won't tell you anything!" Argh. Erika, on the other hand, is cool. You mess with her, you get something broken. I love how she takes care of Kimiko. And in recent events, I like seeing the more fragile side of Erika. I can't help it, I have a weakness for angst. I love it.

I was deeply remiss in leaving out two more of my favorite characters from this meme, so I'm including them in this post.

16. Gankutsuou - Eugenie. Eugenie is so cool! Even though she belongs to a noble family, she doesn't care about that. She wants to travel the world as a piano player. That's freaking awesome. She also wants to break away from her family, and I can really empathize with that. Her affection for Albert is also really cute, even if she denies it.

17. Phantom of the Opera - The Phantom. Even if he's a killer, he is a dark and tortured soul. It's no wonder he's the way he is with how everyone has treated him because of his face. I want to give him a big hug. I also love how he's such a creative artist. Some of his music may be a little dark, yes, but just listen to "Music of the Night." Augh. It's so gorgeous. You gotta love someone who can write something that beautiful. Phantom just needs some love, that's all he really needs.

Whew! Done. I ended up writing a whole lot more than just one sentence per character.
