Answer to picture trivia question

I just realized that I never answered the trivia question I posted, asking people to guess what this apparatus does.

The answer is that it's a "Geodesic Photogrammetry System," used to localize electrodes for EEG experiments.

Yeah, that is pretty freaky looking. Is it some kind of net they've draped over her head, or have they glued the electrodes to her hair?

Oh, and I was in a school-wide spelling bee in sixth grade, and the word I missed out on was "electroencephalograph". The kid who won had to spell the word "pearl".

Oh, it's probably a net that's draped over, although some people do things where they use gel to help keep it in place. In our lab we have a net which is soaked in water first, and the individual electrodes are able to somehow burrow themselves through the hair. I tried being an EEG subject for the first time the other day, and it wasn't too bad.
