Windows Vista and shocking news

Jan 30, 2007 13:45

So.........after not posting for, like, forever (not that I remember to, my poor LJ account is like the forgotten middle child), here I am to blurb briefly about Windows Vista and some news that scares me.

(1) Windows Vista. Dear lord, my computer-techie-geek older cousin's been mad about this for years, following up on its development, etc. As much as I dislike Macs and Apple in general, at least his growing obsession with that is somewhat taking away from the Vista craze. Anyhow, who's interested/excited/obsessed over it? I don't care that much, really; it looks cool, though. Heh. Oh, but one thing I heard that I do NOT like is the near-complete lack of privacy Vista has -- did you hear? Microsoft can invade and look through your computer and its contents at any time, without your permission, and even go so far as to delete programs from it, without your permission, and WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. I mean.........the hell? A guilded cage is still a cage. Jeez. Anyway, for interested parties, here's a Vista page on the Future Shop site.

(2) And for the shocking and scary news............ Well, I'm a manga fan, and am adequately aware of the goings-on in the world of manga. For fellow readers out there, perhaps you've heard of a manga called PRINCESS AI, TokyoPOP's first Jap-USA collab series? The creators are Misaho Kujiradou, D.J. Milky (both Japanese) and Courtney Love. I've never read it, but I heard it was good, and have friends who read/fan it.

BUT, the weird news is not about that project or company, but of another of both. This concerns the fledgling Del Rey Manga, and their newest project that I've received a "breaking news" newsletter email about in my inbox. Others might've known about this, but oh boy is this news to me...............here is the main headline:

DEL REY MANGA NEWSLETTER – BREAKING NEWS

DEL REY MANGA ACQUIRES ITS FIRST AMERICAN MANGA IN COLLABORATION WITH POP SUPERSTAR AVRIL LAVIGNE

Apparently, they announced the acquisition today. The series is called MAKE 5 WISHES, and here's a little summary on it from the newsletter:

In volume one of MAKE 5 WISHES, introverted teenager Hana stumbles upon a website that will change her life forever. After a demon grants her a series of wishes that go bad, Hana meets her hero Avril Lavigne, who helps her find the courage to conquer her own personal demons once and for all.

Yeah. Don't know what to make of that. The series is a two-parter, with vol.2 coming in July, and both are full-colour, so Del Rey's going all out. There's a lot more detail in the rest of the newsletter.

I just......don't know.
