The Inkygirl.com 1000 words challenge is so awesome I created a new tag for it!

...Oh but Sorcha, you create new tags for everything excusable.

I’m averaging 1000 words every other day or so. I would say that I should probably have done the 500 word challenge instead, but I think that it’s not an issue of the ‘1000 words’ part so much as the ‘a day’ part.

I know if I knuckled down and strapped myself to my desk I would be able to do 1000 every day, but it seems I’ve just hit a pattern of feeling like writing every other day, but not on the other days. I’ll get into a 1000+-a-day flow as soon as July Novel Writing Month starts, I’m sure. All I need is a nice deadline.

Perhaps it’s also partly because I’m not writing anything in particular, I’m just writing - although I think I need that. Mostly I’m either riffing on real life experiences or amusing thoughts that popped into my head, or riffing on an amalgamation of prompts from a few different sources. The result: 1000 word short stories that barely meet the standards of lucidity and employ a lot of flowery metaphor to fill the wordcount.

None of what I’ve written so far has been usable for any purpose - in fact, it’s all pretty terrible - but at least I’m writing something?

Ah, progress.

STAY TUNED: If you (nobody) are very good I may post some of the more amusingly terrible 1000 word results later on. They are gory, sometimes, or have lots of
swearing!
