Work is okay.
For a $5/paycheck fee, I have a gym membership through the workplace. I've started working out again, taking 30-minute walks on a treadmill and playing with the weights a little. It'll take a lot more effort than that to slip back into 34x34 jeans and get down to 200 pounds, though.
Jon and I held our first planning meeting for The Game last night. Both of us. Two others took a trip to Florida, and another came up from Florida for a rehearsal dinner and a wedding, and was unable to slip away and join us. Maybe Sunday, before he heads back. It'll be a miracle if we can get five people at the same table before the day of The Game, but I'm not worried yet. Maybe in January, I'll start to fret.
I received an email today and nearly dismissed it as spam. The subject line was "by any chance???", which sounds vague enough to be a spam. Turns out that the sender is the wife of my other groomsman from '96, who had pretty much dropped off the face of the planet for the last eight years. A phone call may be forthcoming, if he can find a gap between all the pre-recorded telemarketed political ads I'm receiving today.
In closing, I bumped into someone running for office on Friday in the county next door. Chung Lee is running for some sort of judge/magistrate position in Gwinnett County, and was campaigning outside of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center (GJAC) on Friday out in the parking lot. Earlier in the campaign, he was giving away fortune cookies with the customized message "vote for Chung Lee" inside. Even after I had explained to him that I wasn't in a district that could vote for him, he was willing to answer my question about the source of his cookies. Nice guy. No clue about his qualifications, but he qualified for the runoff, and he's a genuinely nice guy. A nice refreshing change from listening to Democrats and Republicans sniping at each other on the national level. Some of them are human after all.
