Another week, another update. Work is slowing down, I miss Bev, and the Braves are just a game out of first place. But wait, there's more.
I scored a cultural victory in Civ III with the Iroquois the other night. 100,069 culture points on a 'large' world. What does it say about me that the victory occurred in "1980"?
It looks like I know up to four other people playing Civ III who might be interested in an internet game sometime. In defiance of Heinlein, hopefully a committee larger than three can finally be convinced to agree on something, and we can get a game going. Finding a time that works for everyone, doesn't conflict with work, feeding a first-grader, or anything else, can hopefully be done.
And now for my latest shameless attempt to get elemess installed as our trivia host . . . we stunk last night. Three of us arrived expecting to see my redhead HS classmate and saw Karen instead. After re-reading elemess' more recent posts, I now see that I need to pay more attention. We were doing okay until Round Four started. Two of the questions that contributed to our demise included "what was the name of the stupidest hyena in Disney's 'The Lion King'", and "what was the name of the referee in the infamous Tyson-Holyfield ear-biting match". After not knowing the name of the hyena, and coming up blank on a serious name for the ref, we used the correct hyena name for the answer to the referee in an attempt to be humorous. This confused Karen into giving us six extra points, and we wound up in second place before the final question . . . until we corrected her, dropping us into a tie for dead last. 'Twas a tight game. Darned ethics. Our team name was "Movin' On Up", in memoriam.
The parents wholeheartedly approve of the new floor. They stopped by for a couple of hours Sunday on their way back from Philly, so we talked a bit. This house just might be sellable after all. There were other benefits to their visit, too, but the biggest one was that they managed to avoid the tornado warning and half-inch hailstones in Alachua County later that evening, and arrived at The Villages before my bedtime.
I have a few pictures from their trip, which I'll post some other time. Hannah doesn't look quite as much like Bob or Carrie as Ryan does, but I'm told that her behavior is exactly like Bob's first few months. She's apparently quite a snugglebunny. I'm probably going up there for Labor Dabor to find out. As for Ryan . . . I'm told that not only does he know how to unlock and push open the sliding door to the patio, but he can also select a Wiggles DVD of his choosing, pop it in the player, choose the correct remote control out of three, and play it all by himself.
Ryan's just 18.5 months old. I thought I was pretty smart for being able to take apart and reassemble a toy jeep when I was four years old, but this just blows me away. He's not even talking yet! I have to wait six more months for him to tell me how to hook up my DVD player, but probably only one or two for him simply to do it for me.
