Killers of a Certain Age

Joe and I enjoyed the Veronica Speedwell books by Deanna Raybourn, so when she sent an email that a sequel to Killers of a Certain Age is in the works, I borrowed it from the library. We both read it while we were on vacation. I'm not fond of reading about assassins, but Deanna Raybourn is a good writer who makes you care about the characters, so I plan to read the eventual sequel.

Highlights (of which there are surpisingly many):

  • Mary Alice: Akiko and I have a good life, you know? We have our softball league and Akiko will be starting pitcher next year. I’ll be able to join an amateur orchestra finally and dust off my viola. We can travel without always wondering if a job is going to come up and derail everything.
  • Billie to Naomi: Is that Midsomer Murders? Old Barnaby or new?
  • I love Minka's Menopaws! app.
  • Billie: I might have even whistled a few bars of 'American Pie' as I gave the sludge in the jar a good shake.
  • Sofonisba Anguissola (c. 1532 - 16 November 1625) was real, but her painting in the book, The Queen of Sheba, Arising doesn't seem to be.
  • Natalie: A cataphile is a Parisian urban explorer.
  • Lilja Koskela brought the hammer down at £775,000 and the crowd went nuts, at least nuts for an auction crowd.
  • Natalie: I’m going to Japan. I’ve always wanted to study ikebana.

  • Author’s Second Note: This is where an ordinary author would write the end in big letters and the story would be finished. But I’m not an ordinary author and this story will never be finished. I’ve changed just enough so that you can’t find us, even if you wanted to. And you really shouldn’t try. People have died for less. I know; I was there.
