On a semi-related note, most blogs I read regularly have talked about David Halberstam today. The political side of things is certainly relevant. Halberstam wrote quite a few sports books, and the consensus seems to be that he wrote them more or less for fun, but that they were still the best the genre had to offer in the last half-century. I don't even know where to start with links, but both sides of him were amazing.
