[Drake is sitting in the cafeteria at a table. He snaps his fingers and cookies appear. Actually, the cookies were there the whole time, he baked them earlier, but he cast an illusion to make it look like the table was empty before.]

Hey, kids! There's a magic show and cookies in the cafeteria, and everyone should come!

[Not on it's own, but Drake is watching, and if Rich tries to take more than two, he'll make the cookies scoot themselves away.]

[Rich is a food hoarder. Government homes will do that for you, especially on low-income planets like Scylla. He's going for as many as he can get with patience and intensity, hiding them inside the shirt layers that are giving his skinny little frame bulk.

...although he freezes when they move.]

Tried to take more than your share, didn't you? [Of course, he doesn't sound mad about it, he's just pointing this out.]

Nuh-uh. [-Rich lies right to his face.]

Really? I'm pretty sure I saw you try to take more. Once the other kids get here you can have more, I just want to make sure everyone gets some.

[Rich gives him a surprisingly jaded look for an eight-year-old and hunches a little around the two cookies he did manage to sneak.] Are you in charge here?

No. I made the cookies, though, and I don't want to have to make more.

[with_my_teacup]

[The little boy shoots him a dark, challenging look. Where he comes from, that's a threat, and he doesn't like to back down.

But he's eight and Drake is an adult and pretty much twice his size. So he'll take his cookies and leave before they get taken back and he catches a beating for it.]

[He lifts his chin and walks out.]
