It felt nice to laugh after all the crap that had happened earlier, and Frank basked in a somewhat happier Gerard. It felt longer than two days since Gerard took the time to laugh and joke around, and maybe it was. Frank really couldn’t remember the last time Gerard was anything but serious or troubled.

After the four of them had calmed down enough, Patrick and Andy left them alone; not before Andy gave Frank a friendly punch on the arm and a wink. The two went over to where Pete and Mikey were still chatting up a storm; most likely to let the vampire know about Gerard agreeing to whatever had been planned. Frank was certain about that.

Frank was close to asking Gerard what that plan was, when Gerard was pulling him into his arms to tightly squeeze him tightly. “Frank” was said brokenly near his cheek.

If the other man had more to say, he was struggling with it. It was obvious that Gerard was still upset and Frank was more than willing to give him comfort; however small.

“G?,” Frank was almost at a loss on how to continue, but he wasn’t one to give up. “Everything’s okay now.” He licked his lips, putting his arms around his best friend and pulling him closer.

Gerard shook his head. “No it’s not. It won’t ever be okay, no matter how much anyone wishes it.” His nose bumped into Frank’s temple. “I almost lost you.” His voice cracked, and Frank thought he was going to cry.

Frank nuzzled his own nose under Gerard’s jaw line and breathed in the cleaner scent clinging to the other man’s neck. “It’ll take more than a little blood to get rid of me.” And God, how he wanted to tell Gerard in that moment; to tell him that he’d never lose Frank to that particular fate, but didn’t because of a promise made four years ago. Damn Patrick and Pete. Damn them to hell.

Gerard didn’t agree but kept silent, and Frank was grateful. It would have ruined one of the only embraces that hadn’t been tainted by some type of impending doom on either of their fates. They didn’t happen very often, but it was something that Frank wished would.

“This is kind of nice.” Gerard said, still whispering but sounding a lot more relaxed.

Frank could only respond with a “Huh?” He pulled back a little to look at Gerard’s face, confused by the sudden subject change.

He couldn’t help but be amused when Gerard blushed and gave a little stutter before settling on saying, “It’s kind of nice, you know.” He took a moment to mess with the collar of Frank’s borrowed shirt, “Umm, holding you like this.”

Now it was Frank’s turn for his cheeks to turn into a furnace. “Oh.” He ducked his head a little and looked up at Gerard through his lashes. “I, umm, think it’s kind of nice too. Holding you, I mean.” It was a little rushed, but he was able to at least say it.

It was worth it when Gerard lit up; a slow, warm grin smoothing over his lips, and eyes crinkling a little in joy. He took Frank’s breath away, leaving him wondering how someone so beautiful could exist in such a bleak setting as this.

“Good.” Gerard said in more of a soft voice than a whisper, before bending a little to press his lips to Frank’s.

‘Oh my fucking God!’ Shot across Frank’s mind as his hands moved up Gerard’s back to press nervously to the back of his neck and shoulder. It was finally happening.

It was short and sweet, not nearly what Frank thought their first kiss would be like. And Frank had known for quite a while that things were leading up to this moment. He only thought it would be a little, more or less, controlled and wet.

But it didn’t lack the passion or feeling that he thought would be associated with the moment. And maybe the chaste press of lips was better then uncontrolled mouths trying to find a connection that didn’t involve bumping teeth or smashed noses.

Gerard pulled him into a close embrace again, but without the constriction of fear, instead it was with the strength of their affection for one another that held them tightly together. Frank pressed the ridge of his brow against Gerard’s collar bone as Gerard pressed a kiss under his ear.

Frank was happy to be reminded of what it felt like to be in love again, and have that love returned. Jamia would be happy to know that he’d kept one of his last promises to her. And for once her memory warmed Frank’s heart, instead of leaving a dim and hurt feeling behind. Nothing could ruin this moment. Nothing.
