“I don’t know if I want to know what’s running through your mind now.” Jules murmured, eyeing the mischievous smile on Sam’s face.
The remark only succeeded in making his smile grow even wider. The blond rookie pulled Jules’ rigid body into his arms.
“I’m not sure if whatever you have in mind right now can be qualified as ‘less lethal’.” She went on, enjoying the warmth of his embrace nonetheless.
“You know, I never really had a ‘forbidden relationship’ before. This scenario is more like something out of a romance crime novel. A rebel rookie with dark past meets a girl who’s as tough as nail. He falls for her, the girl rejects him, at first, but finds herself helplessly attracted to him anyway. Everybody is against the relationship. The boss finds out, they’re both toast,” Sam paused, then snickered. “All we need to complete the Romeo and Juliet storyline is a scruffy paramedic, or a hot SIU redhead, as a catalyst. We’ll put Grey’s to shame.”
“You watch Grey’s?”
“You don’t watch Grey’s?”
“Shut up.” Jules swatted his arm. “Basically, you’re saying that we’re such a cliché.”
“What’s wrong with office romance anyway? Cops do have needs too.” Sam pondered.
Jules smiled against his chest. He suspiciously smelled of her honey-jasmine soap and she figured that he had forgotten his toiletries. She could start lecturing him about rules, but it could wait for another day. “You mean a rebel rookie does have sexual needs too.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“It’s called reading between the lines, Sam.”
“We’ll be different though.”
“Different how?” She raised her head to look at him, intrigued.
Sam grinned, kissing her softly before closing any further conversation for the night. “Unlike those guys, I will get the girl at the end. Mark my word.”
